Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen from our last visit at Mitsuyado Sei-Men. JodiesDaddy ordered this. He was happy with it. Good for him hahahaha

Btw.. I want to start categorizing my ramen posts. I still have to think of a title like my Fri-date Chronicles. I’m so bad at it that these were the best I could come up with: Ramen Raves, Ramen Rules! and Rah-Rah-Ramen. Told you it was corny hahahahaha

The first time JodiesDaddy and I went to Mitsuyado Sei-men, we weren’t blown away.  We had both ordered ramen’s then but it was not their specialty. Don’t get me wrong, the ramen was good, but just not what we were used to.  Their Tsukumen is what they are more known for.

Since then, I’ve been wanting to go back just to try their Double Cheese Tsukumen which I’ve read so much about.  So that’s what I did when I finally convinced JodiesDaddy that we should give it another shot.

So what did I think of it?  Let me break it down… The noodles had a great consistency - al dente.  The cheese sauce reminded me of Cheez Whiz.  And the accompanying dipping sauce was thick, savory and very flavorful.  How to eat it?  Pour the cheese sauce over the noodles, dip in a portion in the sauce and slurp haha.

To be honest, I found the combination of all the flavors a little too overpowering.  Too rich for my taste.  Was it because I poured all the cheese sauce (but that’s what was recommended)?  Maybe.  Because when I had JodiesDaddy taste it, he really LOVED the broth (BUT he did NOT like the cheese on the noodles).  And I think it will be this special Tsukumen broth that will drive us back to Mitsuyado.

To those who have tried the Double Cheese Tsukumen, I go back to my question on my first post, what did you think of it?

Caramel Banana Walnut pancakes from Pancake House

I don’t know why, but ever since Mother’s Day weekend I have been craving for pancakes (no, sadly, I am not pregnant).

Are you tired of my ramen posts yet?! I hope not! Because as long as the Ramen Craze is here with new ramen places popping up - and there are still a lot we have not tried - my posts on ramen will keep on coming. It’s JodiesDaddy’s current favorite food —- shabu shabu please step aside ;D

Last week we tried out Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen in the newest wing of Shangri-La Plaza. One of my friends didn’t really like it when he ate here, but we thought, what the heck… Might as well give it a shot.

We shared: Potato Croquette. I was the only one that liked this. It was on the sweet side.

JodiesDaddy had: Spicy Tobanjan Tonkotsu - Ramen with spicy Tobanjan paste, resulting in absolutely appetizing and wholesome flavour

I had: Ajitama Tonkotsu - Topped with a special half-boiled egg that is fully marinated with a special blended soy sauce base

Surprisingly (since we were not expecting much), we both really loved our ramen. We cleaned our bowls down to the last drop. We liked the flavors. Another thing we also liked about Ikkoryu was that they give you an option for noodles: hard (firm), soft or regular. We both chose firm noodles.. Somewhat like instant noodles.

At P380/bowl, it was on the pricey side (especially since we thought the serving size was smaller than our favorite Ukkokei) but worth it.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all mommies out there and to your mommies too!!

This year, we had lunch with my family at our home in QC. I asked my mom what she wanted and all she was craving for was Ilocos (a province up north) empanada. We fixed our menu around the empanadas.

For starters we had a deconstructed blue cheese coleslaw. I was in charge of this one, and as per the request of my mom, I made sure there was no mayonnaise. The blue cheese dressing was done from scratch ;D

Then the Ilocos empanadas — with no egg (YAY)! This was the first time I tried the one from Fariñas and it was really good! I liked their bean sprouts, and the Longganisa was delicious.

We also ordered bagnet from Fariñas to keep up with the Ilocos theme. It was heart-stopping-ly good!! I’m salivating just thinking of it haha. We had some plain rice for the bagnet.

For dessert, my mom bought some vanilla frozen yogurt and we had strawberries, canned peaches and some mango mochi as toppings.

It was a fun, stress-free lunch. Food was good and conversation and stories shared made the whole lunch unforgettable.

And to cap it all off, we had a game of Monopoly Deal — and my mom won!

We were lost in translation. But it only took us 3 words to understand each other:

BANANA. NUTELLA. CREPE.
