JodiesDaddy is out with his bestfriend, and they’re eating at Chili’s.  I’m home with Jodie since she’s been sick for 2 days now.  No regrets.  I would rather be with Jodie.  BUT —- I can’t just help think of what they could be eating right now.

Chili’s may be quite overpriced — and some may even think it’s overrated.  But me, I like it there.  Shown above are some of my favorites:

Tostada Chips — I would be content eating only this

Fish and Chips —- my usual order, sometimes I alternate it with the chicken crispers (another favorite)

Bacon Mushroom burger —- JodiesDaddy usually has a burger

and…

Frozen Margarita —- what a way to quench my thirst! I enjoy it when they have their bottomless Frozen Margarita nights ;D

JodiesDaddy has been craving for crabs.  For lunch yesterday, we went to the Seaside Market along Macapagal Highway and ate at our favorite Hong Kong Chef Master Cook restaurant.

JodiesDaddy had: 1kg of crabs with sotanghon (vermicelli) in hot pot

JodiesMommy had: 1/2kg of salt and pepper squid (my usual order ;D)

We shared: steamed native scallops (they came it this shell that resembled fans/pamaypay’s) cooked with a black bean sauce.  This was really good.  The taste of the sauce was a little over powering (nakaka-umay) though.  I needed more rice.

Oh, we also shared some noodles, but we barely touched this.

One of my good friends was coming over from Dubai for a very quick visit.  She asked me to set up a get together/mini-reunion with our ex-Saudia colleagues.  She didn’t really care where we would eat.. but her only condition was that it should have PORK! hahaha

Dubai has its own share of Filipino food, but my friend misses good old Filipino pork dishes.  After discussing with the rest of the group, we decided Kanin Club (Kanin = Rice) would do the trick and satisfy her craving… so did it?!?!

TOP:

Sinangag na Sinigang.  This is my FAVORITE!!  I can eat the rice alone and be happy.  It already had a sinigang flavor despite it being dry (i.e. with no sinigang broth), which was perfect! It was topped with crispy kangkong and thin slices of PORK belly

MIDDLE:

Crispy Liempo (PORK belly).  It was thinly sliced belly strips, which reminded me so much of bacon (minus the salty bacon flavor)

Crispy Dinuguaan. I’ve never eaten dinuguaan before, and I still didn’t want to try it even if it is a best seller at Kanin Club.  Dinuguaan’s main ingredients are pig’s blood and pig’s innards (not my cup of tea).

BOTTOM:

Crispy Pork Binagoongan - it wasn’t too salty and the bagoong was not overpowering.

Fully Loaded Fried Rice - this my least favorite among all dishes.  Nothing special, but it still did have PORK in it ;D

So yes, I think our friend left full and satisfied after eating so much pork! Us, her friends, on the other hand, left with higher cholesterol levels hahaha

For mothers day, JodiesDaddy whipped up his specialty dish.. Cheese fondue — and mind you, this was from scratch. It was PERFECT! The cheese clung to the bread, potatoes and broccoli like it was second skin.

How does he make it?! It’s pretty easy.. He rubs the pan with garlic, then evaporates some white wine. Then he slowly adds grated gruyere and emmental. Seasons it with a little pepper. He uses lemon and a cornstarch solution to modulate the cheeses’ thickness. When its almost wiped out, we add an egg and beat it in the hot pan (learned this from a French guy we dove with once).. It becomes like this really creamy cheesy scrambled eggs.

We want to try and experiment with other cheeses and the alcohol. Any suggestions?

It’s always a plus when noodle soup is served piping hot.  There’s a bigger chance it will stay that way until the end of the meal :)

Elbert’s burger with provolone cheese from Elbert’s Cheesesteak in Powerplant.

I enjoyed this. The patty was tasty and not over cooked. I think the burger will go really great on top of steamed rice hahaha
